Sensex Today Tanks 1,405 Points; Nifty Below 22,250

Indian share markets are trading lower with the Sensex trading 1,405 points lower, and the Nifty is trading 445 points lower.

Asian markets traded higher on Thursday, following overnight rally on Wall Street amid hopes that the US is looking to exit the Iran war.

US stock market ended higher on Wednesday, led by index heavyweights, after President Donald Trump suggested an end to the Iran war could be close.

At present, the BSE Sensex is trading 1,405 points lower, and the NSE Nifty is trading 445 points lower.

Sun Pharma, Eternal, and Adani Ports, on the other hand, are among the top losers today.

The BSE 150 Midcap index is trading 2.7% lower, and the BSE 250 SmallCap index is trading 2.5% lower.

Sectoral indices are trading negatively today, with stocks in the banking sector and the services sector witnessing selling pressure.

The rupee is trading at Rs 93.2 against the US dollar.

Strong SUV Demand Drives Maruti Growth

Maruti Suzuki India reported strong growth in March sales. Its total sales rose to 2,25,251 units, up from 1,92,984 units last year. Domestic passenger vehicle sales increased to 1,66,219 units compared to 1,50,743 units a year ago.

Entry-level cars like the Alto and S-Presso sold 11,741 units, which is slightly more than the 11,655 units sold last year. Sales of small cars like the Baleno, Swift, and WagonR went up from 66,906 to 71,789 units. Utility vehicles like the Brezza, Ertiga, and Grand Vitara grew more quickly, going from 61,097 units last year to 71,356 units this year. The Super Carry, a light commercial vehicle, sold 3,209 units, up from 2,391.

For the full financial year 2025-26, the company sold around 24.2 lakh units, up from 22.3 lakh units in the previous year.

V-Mart Retail Achieves Record Quarterly Growth

V-Mart Retail reported strong performance for the quarter. Its operational revenue increased to Rs 9.71 billion (bn) from Rs 7.8 billion last year, representing a growth of approximately 24%. The company's same-store sales also went up by 12%, with V-Mart stores growing by 12% and Unlimited stores growing by 9%.

These numbers are provisional and may change after audit review.

During the quarter, the company expanded its network by opening 29 new stores and closing 6, taking the total store count to 577 stores as of 31 March 2026. Over the full year, it added 92 stores and closed 12, marking its highest-ever expansion.

Most of the new stores were opened across states like Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, West Bengal, and Jharkhand, showing continued focus on growing its presence in key markets.

Hero MotoCorp Shows Strong Sales Growth

Hero MotoCorp has acquired 2,68,219 Series E compulsorily convertible preference shares in Euler Motors for Rs 2.1 bn, giving it a 36.67% stake in the company on a fully diluted basis.

In March 2026, Hero MotoCorp's operations were strong, with dispatches rising 8.8% year-on-year to 5,98,198 units, compared to 5,49,604 units in March 2025.

Retail sales were robust, with VAHAN registrations reaching 5,42,436 units, up 24%.

Domestic sales were 5,52,505 units, while exports grew 15.62% to 45,693 units, achieving an all-time high growth of about 40% for FY26.
