5 reasons why Indian stock markets are rising:

#1 Fed Holds Rates

The US Federal Reserve kept its key interest rate unchanged at around 3.9% despite persistent inflation. Markets expect a possible 0.25% rate hike at its December 8-9 meeting, with investors pricing in an 85% probability.

#2 Rising Hopes for LTCG Tax Cuts

Indian markets gained on hopes that the government may reduce long-term capital gains (LTCG) tax and review securities transaction tax (STT). A potential tax cut could attract foreign investors back to Indian equities, particularly benefiting banks, energy companies and other large-cap stocks.

#3 FII Buying

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) turned net buyers of Indian equities, although a sustained reversal in foreign investor selling is yet to be confirmed.

#4 Rupee Gains

The Indian rupee strengthened by 11 paise to 95.17 against the US dollar, supported by a weaker dollar following the Fed's policy announcement. However, high crude oil prices, continued dollar demand and expectations of a possible US rate hike could limit further gains.

#5 Bond Yields Cool Down

US Treasury yields declined, with the 10-year yield falling below 5%, the 30-year yield easing to 5.3% and the 2-year yield dropping to 4.69%. Lower bond yields can make equities relatively more attractive to investors, potentially supporting stock markets.

The rupee is trading at Rs 95.2 against the US$.

Gold prices for the latest contract on MCX are trading lower at Rs 1,44,130 per 10 grams.

Meanwhile, silver prices were trading 0.8% lower at 1,95,075 per 1 kg.
