The benchmark Nifty50 and the Sensex declined as oil prices rose after the US threatened to continue the naval blockade at the Strait of Hormuz for an indefinite time.

At the closing bell, the BSE Sensex closed 7 points lower.

Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty closed 29 points lower.

Apollo Hospital, Bharti Airtel and ICICI Bank were among the top gainers today.

Hindalco, ONGC and Asian Paints, on the other hand, were among the top losers today.

The GIFT Nifty was trading at 24,413 trading 0.1% down at the time of writing.

The BSE 150 Midcap index ended 0.2% lower, and the BSE 250 Smallcap index ended 0.4% lower.

Sectoral indices were trading mixed today, with stocks in the telecom sector and hospital sector witnessing a buying spree. Meanwhile, stocks in the energy and oil & gas sector witnessed selling pressure.

The rupee is trading at 95.43 against the US$.

Gold prices for the latest contract on MCX are trading 0.13% lower at Rs 153,267 per 10 grams.

Meanwhile, silver prices were trading 0.3% lower at Rs 234,721 per 1 kg.

Why did Welspun Living Rally 10% Today?

Shares of Welspun Living surged over 10% in Friday's trading session after the home-textile major reported a strong Q1FY27 performance.

For the June 2026 quarter, its total income jumped 23.5% YoY to Rs 28,280, million (m), up from Rs 22,890 m a year back.

EBITDA for the quarter came in at Rs 3,540 m, up 39.1% against the same quarter last year. The net profit after minority interest for the quarter jumped to Rs 1,610 m, up 83.6% from Rs 880 m a year back.

The net profit margin came in at 5.7%, up from 3.8% a year ago.

Welspun Living is a global home textile company with a presence in over 50 countries and a workforce of more than 26,000 people. The company has built a strong position in home textiles by focusing on innovation, technology and sustainability.

The stock touched its 52-week high of Rs 178 on 14 August 2026.

Apex Frozen Foods Share Hits 20% Upper Circuit

Shares of Apex Frozen Foods hit the 20% upper circuit on Friday after the company reported a 144% YoY rise in net profit for the quarter ended June 2026.

Apex Frozen Foods reported a net profit of Rs 220 million in the June 2026 quarter, compared with Rs 90 m in the corresponding quarter a year earlier.

The company's revenue from operations stood at Rs 2,570 m in the June 2026 quarter, marginally lower than Rs 2,580 m in the year-ago period. However, revenue increased 53% sequentially from Rs 1,680 m in the March 2026 quarter.

Sales declined 0.63% YoY to Rs 2,565.3 m in the June 2026 quarter from Rs 2,581.6 m in the same quarter of the previous year.

Ashoka Buildcon Gets REC Power LoI

On August 14 Ashoka Buildcon received a Letter of Intent (LoI) from REC Power Development and Consultancy.

The LoI is for the establishment of a 400/220/132 kV AIS Sakoli substation in Bhandara, Maharashtra, under the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) route.

The project has a completion period of 24 months, followed by an Operations & Maintenance period of 35 years.

The annual transmission charges for the project stand at Rs 1.3 bn.
