Sensex Today Ends 443 Points Lower; Nifty Below 24,250

Although the benchmark indices opened lower, they traded negative throughout the session and ultimately closed red.

Indian equity benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty50, ended lower as bank and financial shares weighed, while traders assessed the tension between the US and Iran.

At the closing bell, the BSE Sensex  closed 443 points lower (down 0.5%)

Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty closed 96 points lower (down 0.4%)

Trent, SBI, and NTPC were the top gainers today.

Axis Bank, Kotak Mahindra, and HDFC Bank, on the other hand, were among the top losers today.

The GIFT Nifty was trading at 24,271, 77 points lower at the time of writing.

The BSE 150 Midcap index is trading 0.4% higher, and the BSE 250 SmallCap index is trading 0.2% higher.

Sectoral indices were trading mixed today, with the metal sector and oil & gas sector witnessing buying. Meanwhile, stocks in the realty sector and banking sector witnessed selling pressure.

The rupee is trading at Rs 96.2 against the US$.

Gold prices for the latest contract on MCX are trading 0.6% higher at Rs 1,41,815 per 10 grams.

Meanwhile, silver prices were trading 1.2% higher at 2,19,083 per 1 kg.

Mahindra Logistics Q1 Business Update

Shares of Mahindra Logistics came into focus after the company reported its Q1 business update.

Mahindra Logistics today reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 2.78 billion (bn) for the quarter ended June 2026, compared with a consolidated net loss of Rs 0.94 bn in the corresponding quarter a year earlier.

The company's total income increased 23.5% year-on-year (YoY) to Rs 201.27 bn in Q1FY27 from Rs 162.97 bn in Q1FY26. The growth was driven by a 22.5% YoY rise in revenue from the supply chain management segment, according to the company's filing with the BSE.

JSW Steel Q1 Business Update

Shares of JSW Steel came into focus after the company reported its Q1 business update.

JSW Steel reported a 113% year-on-year (YoY) increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 46.51 bn in Q1FY27, compared with Rs 21.84 bn in the corresponding quarter last year.

The company's consolidated revenue rose 9.8% YoY to Rs 473.64 bn from Rs 431.47 bn a year earlier.

On a sequential basis, revenue declined 7.5%, while net profit fell 71.6%, as the preceding quarter included an exceptional gain from the slump sale of Bhushan Power and Steel (BPSL).

Profit before exceptional items and tax stood at Rs 61.60 bn in Q1FY27, up 100.5% YoY and 37.2% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ).

Consolidated crude steel production increased 3% YoY to 6.59 million tonnes (mt) during the quarter.

Punjab National Bank Q1 Business Update

Shares of Punjab National Bank came into focus after the company reported its Q1 business update.

Punjab National Bank (PNB) reported a net profit of Rs 52.53 bn for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, compared with Rs 16.75 bn in the corresponding period last year.

The bank's total income remained largely unchanged at Rs 372.31 bn during the quarter.

Interest income increased marginally to Rs 328.97 bn from Rs 319.64 bn a year earlier.

Operating profit rose to Rs 75.19 bn, compared with Rs 70.81 bn in the year-ago quarter.

The bank's gross non-performing assets (GNPA) ratio improved to 2.78% of gross advances at the end of the June quarter, from 3.78% a year earlier.

In absolute terms, GNPA declined by Rs 72.92 bn to Rs 353.81 bn from Rs 426.73 bn, while net non-performing assets (NNPA) fell by Rs 6.99 bn to Rs 34.33 bn from Rs 41.32 bn as of June 2025.
