There’s clear evidence that Apple is indeed intending to use sapphire for both models of the iPhone 6 (4.7 inch and 5.5 inch) based on how much a newly acquired Apple supplier is spending on production capacity.

Matt Margolis, an analyst with PTT Research is convinced that not only will Apple use sapphire in place of Gorilla Glass but that it will offer it on both the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models. His belief stems from a detailed look at the financials of GT Advanced Technology, the supplier Apple signed a $578 million deal with last November. SOURCE Forbes

Margolis surmised that most analysts are skeptical on whether sapphire will be used in the iPhones because they are focused on a new plant that GT is building, and that it’s not ready. But Margolis has deduced that the sapphire has been built and stockpiled for several months, enough to cover the production of 70 million iPhones. In addition to the iPhones, it appears the capacity being built will enable iPads to be bejeweled as well.
