Burnout in the American workplace has become dangerously high - more than half of all American workers have felt burnout at least once in the past and 77% of professionals and 84% of Millennials have experienced burnout at their current job. 64% of working Americans feel frustrated or stressed at work at least once per week. Feeling this stressed this often can have many negative effects on the body.
Cortisol, known as the stress hormone, increases 2 to 5 times during times of stress. Higher cortisol levels can do many things such as the heightened risk of heart disease and diabetes, lower immune function, increase weight gain and blood pressure, and interfere with memory. Chronic stress can also change brain activity from more higher-order tasks and shift it to more survival instincts and provides no outlet for cortisol.
