In the wake of the COVID pandemic, 75% of pharmacy workers are reporting feelings of burnout. Added responsibilities and medication guidelines have made it more difficult to get the job done and staffing shortages are affecting the efficacy of many pharmacies across the country.
Within the next 4 years, 6.5 million healthcare workers will be leaving the industry and only 2 million new workers will be entering the healthcare field. Obviously, this leaves a massive staffing gap and the results could be disastrous.
Fortunately, there are things that can be done. Healthcare facilities are already increasing incentives by raising wages, giving flexible hours, and increasing benefits, but another way the pharmaceutical industry can combat the staffing shortage is through pharmacy automation.
There are many processes that can be changed from manual to automated within the functions of a pharmacy. Pharmacy automation can do things like inventory management, tracking patient medical history, and pill sorting, among other things. Pharmacy automation can ensure that pharmacies have adequate resources to supply the demand of those in need of medication.
