The Epoch Capabilities Index combines scores from a wide range of AI benchmarks into a single “general capability” score, allowing for comparisons across AI models. OpenAI and Anthropic currently lead the AI race, with scores above 160, reflecting the strongest models available today. Google, Meta (META), and xAI are slightly behind, clustered between 155 and 160. Notably, Meta has made a significant leap this year, rapidly closing the gap with the leading companies. The U.S. continues to dominate the AI landscape, with all five major players on the leaderboard being American companies.
