In this Elliott Wave update, we examine the long-term structure in Kosmos Energy Ltd. (KOS). The stock started a major bullish cycle from the 2020 low, producing a clear impulsive advance before entering a multi-year correction.

That correction appears to have ended in January 2026. Since then, KOS has started building a bullish double-nest structure, which suggests the stock may be preparing for a much stronger upside phase. If the current Elliott Wave count continues to develop as expected, the next major move should come in wave 3, with the larger sequence targeting the $9 area over the next few quarters.

KOS Started an Impulsive Cycle From the 2020 Low

Looking at the weekly chart, KOS established an important low in 2020 and then started a strong bullish advance.

The rally developed through a clear five-wave impulsive structure. Waves ((1)) through ((5)) pushed the stock substantially higher and eventually completed a larger bullish cycle.

This impulsive price action was important because it showed that the move from the 2020 low represented more than a temporary bounce. Instead, it established the foundation for a larger long-term bullish sequence.

Multi-Year Correction Followed the Initial Impulse

After the first bullish cycle ended, KOS entered a lengthy corrective phase.

The decline developed through an A-B-C structure at the larger degree, eventually pushing the stock back toward the lower end of its long-term range. However, despite the depth of the decline, the structure remained corrective against the original 2020 low.

Most importantly, wave ((C)) appears to have completed in January 2026, ending the larger wave II correction.

From there, the focus shifted back toward the upside.

January 2026 Low Started a New Bullish Cycle

Since the January 2026 low, KOS has shown a significant change in character.

The stock initially rallied in five waves to complete wave ((1)). It then pulled back in wave ((2)) while maintaining the larger bullish structure.

Afterward, KOS started another five-wave advance in wave (1), followed by another corrective pullback in wave (2).

Consequently, the structure from January 2026 now displays a bullish double nest.

Why the Double Nest Is Important

A double nest forms when the market creates multiple wave 1–2 structures before a larger third-wave expansion begins.

In KOS, the structure currently shows:

  • Wave ((1)) higher followed by wave ((2))

  • Wave (1) higher followed by wave (2)

These nested bullish sequences suggest that several degrees of wave 3 could soon begin unfolding together.

This type of structure can produce strong acceleration once the smaller-degree corrections finish. Therefore, the current setup carries considerably more upside potential than a normal corrective rebound.

Wave 3 Higher May Be Starting

The preferred Elliott Wave path suggests the latest wave (2) pullback is preparing the stock for the next impulsive leg.

Once that correction completes, KOS should begin wave 3 higher. Within that advance, smaller waves 1 through 5 should develop as momentum strengthens.

The chart already projects an initial five-wave sequence higher, followed by another correction and continuation. This fits well with the idea that KOS is entering the stronger portion of the bullish cycle.

For that reason, short-term pullbacks should remain corrective while the January 2026 low holds.

$9 Area Becomes the Bigger Objective

The larger bullish sequence supports a move toward the $9 area over the next few quarters.

KOS does not need to move directly toward that target. Smaller-degree rallies and pullbacks should develop along the way as the impulsive structure matures.

However, once wave 3 gains momentum, price can begin accelerating through previous resistance levels and eventually challenge the major highs shown on the weekly chart.

Therefore, the $9 region represents the next major objective as the bullish sequence develops.

Bigger Picture Remains Constructive

The long-term Elliott Wave structure remains bullish as long as the January 2026 low remains intact.

The initial impulse from 2020 demonstrated the stock's ability to trend strongly to the upside. The subsequent correction appears to have completed in January 2026, while the price action since then has built a bullish double nest.

Together, these developments support the view that KOS is preparing for another expansion phase rather than beginning a new long-term decline.

The broader bullish structure remains valid above the $0.50 invalidation level.

Technical Summary

To summarize, KOS produced an impulsive bullish structure from the 2020 low before entering a major corrective phase.

That correction appears to have ended in January 2026, and the stock has since developed a double nest through waves ((1))-((2)) and (1)-(2).

This structure suggests that wave 3 higher may be preparing to begin, potentially creating a significant acceleration in the coming quarters.

As long as the bullish sequence remains intact, the larger path favors continued upside, with KOS targeting the $9 area over the next few quarters.
