Comcast's (CMCSA) "Jason Bourne" earned $60M in its U.S. debut over the July 31 weekend, beating the $50M-$54M estimated range as well the $38M debut of 2012's "The Bourne Legacy." In foreign markets, the film took $50.1M. The fifth entry in the "Bourne" spy thriller series received an A- in audience polls from CinemaScore, holds a 56% approval rating on reviews aggregator RottenTomatoes, and was produced with a reported budget of $120M.
Box Office Runners-Up: Viacom's (VIA) "Star Trek Beyond" added $24M in its second week, dipping about 60% from its opening weekend and underperforming against expectations for $26M-$30M.
Meanwhile, STX Entertainment's "Bad Moms," an R-rated comedy starring Mila Kunis and Kristen Bell, opened at $23.4M against forecasts of $24M-$25M. Rounding out the top five, Comcast's "The Secret Life Of Pets" grossed $18.2M and Time Warner's (TWX) "Lights Out" took $10.8M. Other publicly traded companies in filmmaking include Disney (DIS), Fox (FOX), Lionsgate (LGF) and Sony (SNE).
