Indeed Tracks U.S. Job Market Cooldown

U.S. job postings on Indeed returned to their 2020 baseline, signaling a significant cooldown from the 2021 hiring surge.

U.S. job postings on Indeed have recently fallen back to the 100 level, roughly in line with its 2020 baseline. After plunging to near 60 during the depths of the COVID-19 downturn, postings rebounded sharply, peaking around 160 in late 2021 as hiring demand surged. Since then, the trend has gradually cooled. Employers have filled many open roles, quit rates have declined, and overall labor demand appears to be normalizing. The current level suggests a more balanced job market compared to the tight conditions seen in the immediate post-pandemic period.
