HTC VIVE Eagle Brings AI Intelligence to Smart Glasses

HTC has expanded its smart eyewear portfolio with VIVE Eagle, a pair of AI-powered glasses that combine everyday style, hands-free interaction, photography, translation, and privacy-focused technology. The AI smart glasses are now available across Europe, North America, and Australia, giving users access to connected AI features through a lightweight eyewear design.

HTC Combines AI With Everyday Eyewear

VIVE Eagle is designed to bring AI capabilities into a familiar glasses format rather than requiring users to interact with a phone or computer for every task.

The glasses weigh about 48.5 grams and feature two frame designs, Pantos and Square, with multiple color and lens options. HTC also offers ZEISS lens choices, including clear, sun, blue-light-blocking, and photochromic options.

The design earned a 2026 Red Dot Design Award, highlighting HTC's focus on combining technology with conventional eyewear aesthetics.

VIVE Eagle is built for hands-free interaction. Users can issue voice commands, capture images and videos, listen to audio, translate content, and access AI-powered information while keeping their phones in their pockets.

12MP Camera Supports Hands-Free Capture

The glasses feature a 12MP ultra-wide camera designed for hands-free photography and video recording.

The camera can capture 3K video and supports image stabilization, HDR processing, and other image-processing capabilities. Users can activate the camera through voice commands, allowing them to capture moments from their point of view without reaching for a smartphone.

HTC has also incorporated a privacy indicator into the camera system. An external LED illuminates when the camera is recording. The recording function automatically stops if the glasses are removed or if the notification LED is obstructed.

This approach gives people nearby a visible indication when the camera is active.

VIVE AI Connects Users With Multiple AI Models

One of VIVE Eagle's key features is its ability to work with multiple AI services.

HTC's VIVE AI provides the primary assistant experience, while users can also access OpenAI GPT and Google Gemini through compatible smartphone connections. This gives users flexibility in choosing AI capabilities for different tasks.

The glasses support verbal and visual queries, real-time information searches, AI-generated summaries, transcripts, and an AI memory bank.

Users can interact with the system through voice instead of relying on a traditional screen-based interface. This makes the glasses suitable for quick questions, hands-free information access, and productivity tasks.

Real-Time Translation Supports Everyday Communication

VIVE Eagle also includes AI-powered translation capabilities.

The glasses can translate speech and visual content, allowing users to access translated information without repeatedly opening a smartphone application. HTC originally introduced support for real-time translation across 13 languages, while its newer product information highlights broader live-translation capabilities.

This can be useful when traveling, reading unfamiliar information, or communicating across language barriers.

Because the translation experience operates through the glasses and connected AI services, users can hear translated information through the device's open-ear audio system.

Open-Ear Audio Keeps Users Connected

HTC has equipped VIVE Eagle with open-ear stereo speakers designed to provide audio while allowing users to remain aware of their surroundings.

The glasses also include a four-microphone array, including a directional microphone, to support voice interactions and calls. HTC combines the microphone system with noise-cancellation technology to improve voice capture in different environments.

The open-ear design avoids the need for traditional earbuds, allowing users to listen to music, hear AI responses, and take calls while maintaining awareness of nearby sounds.

AI Supports Productivity and Information Access

VIVE Eagle extends beyond photography and entertainment by providing tools for everyday productivity.

Users can create notes and reminders through voice interaction, generate meeting notes, and use AI to summarize information. These capabilities allow the glasses to function as a hands-free assistant during work, travel, and daily activities.

The ability to combine camera input with voice commands also enables visual queries. Users can capture or reference something in front of them and use AI to obtain additional information.

This approach reflects HTC's broader vision of making AI accessible without requiring users to constantly look at a screen.

Privacy Takes a Central Role

HTC has positioned privacy as an important part of VIVE Eagle's design.

The company says VIVE AI does not use user data to train its AI models. HTC also says that user interactions are de-identified when third-party AI services are involved, making it more difficult for external AI systems to build a personal profile from those interactions.

The glasses also use local data storage and encryption, while recording indicators provide visibility when the camera is operating.

HTC says the device can prevent recording when it is removed from the user's face or when the recording indicator is covered. The company has also introduced a feature that allows people nearby to say “Stop filming” to end an active recording.

Built Around Privacy-First AI

HTC's approach places privacy controls directly into the hardware and software experience.

The company says AI prompts and captured media can remain on the glasses and smartphone whenever possible. More complex requests may require online processing, with HTC stating that personally identifiable information is removed before information reaches an external large language model.

This architecture is designed to give users greater control over how their information is handled while still providing access to cloud-based AI capabilities.

The approach also reflects a growing industry focus on privacy as camera-equipped AI wearables become more common.

Global Availability Expands the VIVE Eagle Ecosystem

HTC first introduced VIVE Eagle in Taiwan in August 2025. The company has now expanded availability to North America, Europe, and Australia.

The broader rollout places VIVE Eagle within the rapidly developing global AI glasses market.

In the United States, the glasses launched from $499, while European pricing starts at €469 and UK pricing at £429, according to HTC's international rollout coverage. Availability and configurations vary by market.

HTC is offering different frame, color, and lens combinations to position VIVE Eagle as both a technology product and everyday eyewear.

HTC Targets the Next Generation of AI Wearables

VIVE Eagle demonstrates HTC's strategy of combining artificial intelligence with wearable hardware.

Rather than adding a conventional display to the glasses, HTC focuses on voice interaction, cameras, open-ear audio, and AI services. This allows users to access digital information while remaining engaged with their physical surroundings.

The combination of OpenAI GPT and Google Gemini compatibility also gives users more flexibility than an AI wearable restricted to a single model ecosystem.

At the same time, HTC's emphasis on local data handling, recording indicators, and privacy controls addresses concerns that come with putting cameras and AI assistants into everyday eyewear.

The Future of Connected Eyewear

The VIVE Eagle launch highlights how AI is moving beyond smartphones and computers into devices people can wear throughout the day.

With hands-free photography, live translation, voice assistance, AI summaries, visual queries, and open-ear audio, the glasses bring several digital functions into a single wearable platform.

HTC's privacy-first approach adds another layer to the product by giving users and people around them greater visibility and control over camera activity.

As AI-powered eyewear continues to develop, products such as VIVE Eagle show how manufacturers are combining traditional product design with AI services, connected devices, and privacy-focused technology.
