The $1.5 trillion global business event industry pre-COVID-19 was thriving but since the pandemic events have been canceled, rescheduled, or become virtual. This has created some major issues as many industries including tech have relied heavily on networking at large events. Because of health concerns, the probability of going back to these large events in the near future seems unlikely. Virtual conferences may be a tangible solution to the present climate. Already it is projected that in 2021 video and web conferencing will account for over 80% of all internet traffic. There is a good reason for this too because already 86% of participants in online meetings have reported that there is at least equal engagement compared to in-person meetings. Online conferences can also eliminate travel costs, reduce the price of admission, and can create a more targeted event focus. As people adapt to a new normal, the world of virtual events may become permanent.
