As we enter a new year with all our new resolutions amid the third year of the COVID pandemic, it’s safe to say that our resolve to improve fitness and health in the coming year is likely to be greater than ever. Of course, many of us have already gotten our new gym memberships and we’re watching what we eat, but the beverage industry is also seeing the effects of our societal shift toward more healthy choices.
In fact, in the past ten years, the beverage industry has seen a steady decline in the purchase of high calorie, high carb drinks like sodas and sweet teas. Today, as the availability of a wider variety of ingredients continues to increase, the beverage industry has seen growth in five major categories of healthier beverages.
Functional waters with vitamins, minerals, and fruit flavors, have seen rapid growth and this market will reach over $18 billion within the next 3 years.
Organic beverages are also seeing an increase in consumer demand and sales of these drinks will reach $32.78 billion by 2027.
Coffee and tea have always been staples of American society, but never more than today with the expansion of flavors, formats, and ready-to-drink varieties. The ready-to-drink coffee and tea market will reach $133.9 billion by 2027, and tea alone will reach $68.95 billion within that time frame.
Lastly, even alcoholic drinks are seeing a transition to include more fruity flavors and functional add-ins. Not only that, but the “mocktail” is growing in popularity far beyond just pregnant women. Mocktails are offering the same flavors of cocktail without the alcohol, for the increasing number of people who are avoiding alcohol content.
For all those wishing to increase their fitness, it’s never been a better time to raise the glass and drink a healthy drink to a healthier you:
