Gambling industry booming in Canada

Since Canada's first commercial casino opened in Winnipeg in 1989, the gambling industry in the country has steadily been on the rise. In recent years, this industry has become a booming success. The advancement of technology has been helping mobile growth, online casinos and e-sports. Online casino gaming in Canada is far more relaxed than our neighbours in the USA, even though there are still some restrictions in place.

From land based casinos plus lotteries and scratchcards to sports betting and the rise of Canadian online casino, this industry in the country is flourishing and that doesn't look like slowing down just yet.

It's not just in Canada, though. Earlier this year, the Gambling Global Market Report 2019 report was released and has projected the gambling industry will be valued at a staggering $565.4 billion globally by 2022. From this report, we can see the gambling market size globally reached almost $449.3 billion back in 2018 with Asia-Pacific being the largest market, followed by North America. The figure being predicted to reach $565.4 billion indicates an unprecedented boom.

As previously mentioned, the evolution of technology is supporting the development of the online gambling industry in Canada, and also worldwide. Not only has it opened up the possibilities of what you can online in terms of playing casino games, betting on sports fixtures and so on, everything has been made much more user-friendly. Whether users have a casino or gambling app on their phone or are purely using their internet browser they can play instantly. The payment processes have been streamlined as well, meaning if players want to withdraw funds it's far easier than it once was and there are many more payment options now.

The eastern province of Ontario is the largest contributor to Canada's gambling economy - unsurprising considering it's the most populated, but the industry really is rising here. The province has the most brick and mortar casinos at over 20, it also has sports betting (including horse racing), charitable gaming, lottery games and slots. There are some restrictions on online gambling in Ontario but even still, it generates a huge amount of revenue from this form of gambling.

British Columbia sits just behind Ontario when it comes to revenue generation from gambling and is followed by Québec and Alberta. If, from the Gambling Global Market report, you were looking at a country or region to experience big growth by 2022, Canada will certainly be among those. The scope for financial growth in Canada is incredible - there's so much already in place and with a progressive approach already being applied, the gambling industry in this country is certain to flourish further.
