Amid heightened market volatility, many ETFs are experiencing significant inflows. The Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO) has attracted over $31 billion in inflows year to date, while State Street’s SPDR S&P 500 ETF (SPY) is close behind with nearly $30 billion. While institutional investors account for much of the trading activity in these ETFs, individual investors make up the majority of long-term holders. These figures highlight the substantial flow of capital into S&P 500–tracking funds.
