US stock futures fall amid rising oil prices, Middle East tensions, and new Canadian tariffs.
Strong August labor data pushed September Fed rate hike probabilities above 60% ahead of inflation reports.
Uber planned its debut uro bond sale, while Novo Nordisk halted two heart drug trials.

Dow Jones futures fall by 0.92% to trade near 52,950 during European hours on Tuesday. Meanwhile, S&P 500 futures decline by 0.41% to trade below 7,700, while Nasdaq 100 futures lose 0.24% to trade below 29,500.
US stock futures declined as elevated oil prices kept inflation risks and interest rate concerns at the forefront of market sentiment. Energy markets faced additional upward pressure following a weekend exchange of strikes between the US and Iran, raising fears of further price increases.
Compounding the market's caution, trade tensions intensify on Tuesday as Canada’s retaliatory tariffs, ranging from 15% to 50% on up to $27.6 billion worth of American goods, are scheduled to take official effect on Tuesday.
Traders are increasingly pricing in a greater than 60% probability of a Federal Reserve (Fed) rate hike in September. This hawkish outlook was reinforced by a stronger-than-expected August US labor report, which showed nonfarm payrolls expanding by 162,000 while the unemployment rate remained steady. Investors are now closely watching the upcoming Producer Price Index and Consumer Price Index releases later this week to better assess the central bank's next policy moves.
Strategists at BNY argue that the latest labour market data have materially reinforced the case for further tightening. They note that, “after an exceptionally strong jobs print on Friday, even Governor Christopher Waller’s somewhat equivocal comments on Thursday don’t seem to be enough to change our view that a rate hike is imminent,” underscoring their conviction that the Fed remains on track to move again despite the nuanced tone from policymakers.
Uber has engaged banks to conduct investor meetings ahead of its planned debut Euro bond sale. Conversely, Novo Nordisk faced another setback as the drugmaker halted two additional trials evaluating its experimental heart disease treatment.
