Last year, 57.3 million freelancers added $1.4 trillion to the U.S. economy. More people are choosing to work-at-home or be their own boss, including nearly half of millennials. People and business are eager to work with freelancers as well, and nearly three-quarters (71%) of freelancers are finding it easier to find work than in the past.
The latest trend in freelancing is infopreneurship ― turning knowledge into income. Infopreneurs create media, teach groups and individuals, consult for businesses, and engage in knowledge commerce. Anyone who has skills or expertise on a topic can get started as an infopreneur.
Infopreneurs tap into to growing market for e-learning and demand for massive open online courses (MOOCs). While MOOCs are traditionally offered by commercial businesses, their subsidiaries, or non-profit organizations, Infopreneurs offer the same benefits with a more personalized touch.
By 2022, the e-learning market is expect to reach $241 billion and infopreneurs are finding success teaching others about fitness, web design, and even getting a baby to sleep. Infopreneurs can also use their online follow to branch out into influencer marketing and product promotions.
