Daily Stock Pick: Marine Products

Marine Products's price per share closed at $14.67 last yesterday. A year ago its price was $14.07.

A portfolio of stocks I've been building since September 3 is named Volio. It will eventually hold 52 dividend dogs. Volio is the fifth portfolio I've built (at a one dividend dog per-week pace) since 2014. Five portfolios = V for Volio!

Today I'm reviewing the second of four consumer cyclical stocks striving to join my Volio folio. This could be my twenty-fifth pick for Volio!

That consumer cyclical sector includes twenty-eight industries ranging from Advertising Agencies to Apparel, Autos, Broadcasting, Department Stores, Gambling, Leisure, Lodging, Packaging, Personal Services, Shoes, Restaurants, Rubber, Plastics, Textiles, and all such consumer aimed enterprises.

My subject today is a small-cap recreational vehicle manufacturer named, Marine Products Corp. Their trading ticker symbol is MPX. This is my first report about Marine Products Corp (MPX).

Marine Products Corp is a manufacturer of fiberglass motorized boats. It operates in the Powerboat Manufacturing business segment through Nashville, Georgia, and Valdosta, Georgia.

Marine group products are marketed under sport boat, deck boat, cruiser, sport yacht, jet boat, and sportfishing boat under Chaparral and Robalo brands. Revenue of the firm is generated by the sale of boats to a network of approximately 168 domestic and over 86 international independent authorized dealers.

The company was founded in 1965 and is based in Atlanta, Georgia.

I use three key data points to gauge dividend equities or funds like Marine Products Corp:

(1) Price

(2) Dividends

(3) Returns

Besides those three, several other keys will finally unlock an equity or fund in which to invest, or not.

Those three basic keys, however, best tell whether a company has made, is making, and will make money.

MPX Price

Marine Products's price per share closed at $14.67 last yesterday. A year ago its price was $14.07. Thus, in the past year, its market price went up  $0.60, or just over 4.3%.

Assuming Marine Product's stock trades in the range of $12 to $16 this next year, its recent $14.67 price could rise by $0.33 to reach $15.00 by February 19, 2021, assuming upward price momentum continues.

MPX Dividends

Marine Product's latest declared quarterly dividend was $0.12 payable March 10. That $0.12 Q dividend equates to an annual payout of $0.48 and yields 3.27% at yesterday's $14.67 share price.

MPX Gains?

Adding the $0.48 annual estimated dividend to my $0.33 estimate of Marine Products Corp price upside shows a $0.81 potential gross gain, per share, which will be reduced by any costs to trade those shares.

Say we put a little under $1,000.00 today in Marine Products Corp at its recent $14.67 price, would buy 68 shares of MPX.

A $10 broker fee paid half at purchase and half at sale could cost us $0.15 per share.

Subtract that $0.15 brokerage cost from the estimated $0.81 gross estimated gain per share leaves a net gain of $0.66 X 68 shares = $44.88 or a 4.5.% net gain on a $997.56 investment.

Therefore, Marine Products Corp, whose trading ticker symbol is MPX shows a possible 4.5% net gain including a 3.27% dividend yield. It could be more, it could be less.

The above speculation is based on past year performance. The actual results remain to be seen to learn if Marine Products Corp, is worth your time and money.
