Bully Breeds: America’s Dogs

Bully breeds have been present in American history, most notably with the registration of the Boston Terrier in 1898. Since then, ‘bully dogs’ have exploded in popularity and now encompass around 20% of the entire U.S. dog population.

These ‘bully dogs’ are a type of classification that includes over 50 different terrier-type dogs, as well as mixed terrier dogs. Although the bully breed dates back to the 19^th century, they have continued to evolve in recent years. In fact, the Dogo Argentino breed from Cordoba was registered as recently as 2020.

Overall, the evolution of the bully breed only grows its popularity inside the states. The French Bulldog took its place as the most popular breed in America, and other bully breeds seem to be following closely behind. Whether the bully breeds are domestic or foreign to the U.S., it seems that bully’s have found their home in the US.
