UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson was moved to an intensive care unit Monday after his condition with coronavirus symptoms worsened.
Johnson, 55, was initially admitted to the hospital on Sunday as a "precaution" and was seemingly still running the government while under care. But since then his condition has deteriorated and he has been moved to the hospital's ICU.
"Over the course of this afternoon, the condition of the Prime Minister has worsened and, on the advice of his medical team, he has been moved to the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital," a Downing Street spokesperson said. "The PM has asked Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, who is the First Secretary of State and the most senior Cabinet minister, to deputize for him where necessary."
Only hours earlier, Johnson tweeted that he "was in good spirits."
Last night, on the advice of my doctor, I went into hospital for some routine tests as I’m still experiencing coronavirus symptoms. I’m in good spirits and keeping in touch with my team, as we work together to fight this virus and keep everyone safe.

While others in the government also tested positive, they have recovered rather quickly. But Johnson, whom tested positive 10 days ago, clearly hasn't fared nearly as well. Johnson's fiancée, Carrie Symonds, has also been experiencing coranvirus symptoms but she has not been confirmed to be infected. Johnson and Symonds are expecting a baby later this year.
The Queen, who gave a rare televised address yesterday, has been kept informed about Mr Johnson's health, according to Buckingham Palace.
