Crypto Market 16 – 22 March 2026: Market Analysis and Performance
The crypto market continues its nauseating up-and-down trajectory. The military conflict in the Middle East is gradually escalating and affecting the global financial markets. In this uncertain environment, the value of crypto assets swings tremendously with every new event. While most cryptocurrencies traded in the green for most of the week, a rise in extreme FUD brought them back in the red over the weekend. Meanwhile, the overall market capitalization increased by over $70 billion, reaching $2.36 trillion.
Bitcoin started the week trading at around $70,000. The king of cryptocurrencies asserted its dominance, even rising to $75,700 midweek. However, in recent hours, BTC has lost significant value. Currently, it is trading around $68,500, slowly approaching its lowest level in three months.
Ethereum decreased by nearly 2% this week but still held above $2,000. The second crypto in command still struggles to hover above the psychologically daunting threshold. However, violent market swings could push it further below in the coming weeks.
Altcoins & DeFi
Most altcoins are trading in the red, without any notable exceptions. For example, XRP is down 1%, Solana is down 1%, Cardano is down 4%, Avalanche is down 7%, Sui is down 8%, Chainlink is down 5%, and TRON is up 5%. Elsewhere, Zcash is down 4%.
The memecoins also saw some interesting trajectories. For instance, Dogecoin is down 5%, Shiba Inu is down 1%, and Pepecoin is down 2%.
The Metaverse sector has also seen notable movements in the past week. For instance, Axie Infinity is down 9%, The Sandbox is down 7%, and Floki is down 5%. Meanwhile, Decentraland is down 9%, Render is down 12%, and ApeCoin is down 8%. MultiversX decreased by 7% while Virtuals decreased by 9%. Meanwhile, Stacks decreased by 7%.
The DeFi sector saw total value locked in protocols (TVL) drop by over $2 billion, to about $94.41 billion.
Crypto Market Analysis – What’s in the News?
Strategy spent over $1.5 billion to acquire 22,337 BTC last Monday. As a result, its total BTC holdings grew to 761,068 BTC, acquired for over $57.6 billion.
Next Week’s Crypto Market Forecast
The crypto market is at the start of a heavily bearish period. After a rather positive week, most cryptocurrencies are losing precious value. This downtrend could lead many to lose all their recent gains and a bit more. Hopefully, the situation will change in the coming weeks.
