Beef prices are back in the news today after President Trump announced a plan to import 300,000 tons of ground beef over the next three months exempt from tariffs and at 25% below market prices.

Earlier this year, it was looking like ground beef prices would eclipse $7/lb by the summer, but as shown below, the price has remained steady just below $7 for the last few months.

Egg prices remain extremely depressed, however.  Wholesale egg prices spiked above $8/dozen in early 2025, but they have since crashed to sub-$1 levels.

Retail egg prices peaked at just above $6/dozen early last year.  As shown below, they were down to $2.189/dozen as of the end of July.

If we combine the price of a dozen eggs with the price of a pound of ground beef, the current cost is $9.07.  That's up from the $5 it cost for beef and eggs in the second half of the 2010s before COVID, but it's down 25% from the peak reading of $12.01 seen in March 2025.
