Average 401(k) Balances Reach Record $146,400

The average 401(k) balance at Fidelity Investments has climbed to a record $146,400, an 11% increase from a year ago. Americans aged 60 to 70 hold the highest average balances, reflecting decades of contributions and market growth as retirement approaches. The trend suggests that while Americans are saving more for retirement, their financial security is becoming increasingly tied to the performance of the stock market.
