Apple announces a 4 for 1 stock split

At yesterday's closing bell Apple's share price was trading around $400 after a move higher due to an impressive third-quarter earnings report which resulted in higher sales even during the coronavirus lockdown period. This means the new price for stockholders will be around $100 when the company trades on a split-adjusted basis on 31 August.

Apple's stock split is not uncommon as the company has done them before. The last split was in 2014 which made the company eligible for addition in the Dow Jones Industrial Average. A stock split does not change the company's fundamental picture but it can lead to increased interest from smaller investors as the shares become cheaper and more accessible.
