Perplexity Locks In 2028 IPO Timeline, Independent of OpenAI & Anthropic Market Performance
The AI IPO race is heating up dramatically this month, and one major player is refusing to let market sentiment dictate its capital market roadmap. US AI firm Perplexity has officially confirmed its fixed 2028 IPO plan, stating its timeline will remain unchanged regardless of how upcoming OpenAI and Anthropic public listings perform.
In a recent CNBC interview, Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas clarified the company’s stance. “Our plan to go public around 2028 was already set long before these upcoming AI IPOs. Nothing has changed with our timeline, no matter how Anthropic or OpenAI’s debuts play out,” Srinivas stated firmly.
The AI industry is facing a historic IPO wave right now. According to CNBC’s latest coverage, OpenAI confidentially filed for its IPO on Monday, June 8th, while Anthropic submitted its public listing documents last week. Additionally, SpaceX is scheduled to go public this Friday, June 12th, bringing huge volatility and sentiment shifts to the tech IPO market.
Srinivas admitted that near-term IPO results will inevitably create ripple effects across the entire tech sector. “There’s no way to sugarcoat it — weak performances from these big AI and tech IPOs will impact overall market sentiment,” he said. He also pointed out that SpaceX’s upcoming listing will act as a critical leading indicator for how investors price AI and high-growth tech stocks this quarter, which will set the tone for Anthropic and OpenAI’s market reception.
Even with potential short-term uncertainty, the Perplexity CEO remains bullish on the broader AI IPO cycle. “I believe these upcoming listings will go smoothly. The underlying fundamentals for these leading AI companies are strong, so I expect solid market performances,” he added.
Looking back, Srinivas previously addressed market speculation regarding Perplexity’s financial status back in 2025. He emphasized that the company faces no cash shortages and has zero urgency for an early exit, confirming there were no IPO plans before 2028. This long-term strategy allows Perplexity to prioritize product iteration, user growth and revenue expansion without rushing for public market liquidity.
As the entire AI sector enters a key capitalization phase, Perplexity’s independent 2028 IPO roadmap sets it apart from other AI unicorns that are rushing to go public amid the current market hype.
