AI Won't Replace Your Manager - Yet

Artificial intelligence can help you out a lot, but it won't replace anyone just yet.

With AI poised to take over positions in the service industry to retail, what could possible be next? Managers? Well, that may not be too far off; certain managerial positions are starting to fall prey to the possibility of automation, potentially putting even those in leadership roles out of a job.

Today, payroll managers, property and real estate managers, administrative services leaders, and transportation managers show high potential for automation in the near future. As roles that demand high levels of data management and analysis, artificial intelligence can possibly do this job better than human beings can. But a lot has to happen before your boss goes the way of the Dodo.

In 2018, Amazon quietly backed away from a recruiting AI program when it began to show less than stellar outcomes. Being fed ten years worth of resumes, most of which belonged to male candidates, the machine learning began to take a slight and then heavy discriminatory curve and eventually started filtering out female applicants. Learning from a decade of male-dominated data, digital male favoritism followed in suit.

What we learn from this failed AI project is not only the capabilities of AI; after all it, was able to successfully sift through mounds of data faster than any human could, we are also faced with how it could backfire. While some managers may find their whole positions at risk, there’s more to leading than just managing data and scheduling maintenance. Good managers know how to lead a team - we’d like to see a machine do that.

Ready to bring your office managers into the future? No need for outright replacement, just give them the right tools to get the job done. And here’s how to do it.
