Another Good Week, A New Closing High

An erratic week ended with the DJIA at a historic new high of 15,762. Market Shadows’ Virtual Value Portfolio hit a new weekly record high also. Our initial $100K portfolio, now 54 weeks old,  is currently worth $132,925.

In a statistical quirk, our account grew by almost exactly $1,000 since the November 1, 2013 close. Our increase matched the DJIA’s percentage gain while outperforming the NASDAQ, Russell 2000 and Standard & Poors 500. Those rose by 0.1%, 0.4% and 0.5% respectively.

We sold our stake in Xylem (XYL) for a 44.1% profit. We added one new name, Aegion (AEGN) during the week. Our cash balance is now 5.8% of our total portfolio value.

VVP as of Nov. 8, 2013

We added two new positions to our Virtual Put Writing Portfolio. Market Shadows had already booked a profit on an expired September $39.50 put on oil refiner HollyFrontier (HFC). We added two HFC June 2014 $40 strike price puts this time around.  We also sold six AEGN June 2014 $20 puts to complement our purchase of AEGN shares.
