What are SIE exams?

As FINRA introduces the SIE exams besides having different series of tests, two main reasons cause FINRA to introduced the new test on 1st October 2018. This test was composed of the decomposition of two low volume tests that Series 42 and Series 62.

  • The first reason was that many organizations realized that. The same introductory question is always asked from the candidate in the other series examination. It means they were checking challengers’ multiple times for the same question.
  • The second reason is that the SIE exams have discriminated against the factors that prohibit many candidates from entering the industry. The candidate should need to be sponsored by any brokerages, but now you can apply without it.

What is the basic format of the test?

The basic format of the SIE exams is designed into four sections/segments that demonstrate the attempter's industry knowledge, knowledge of rules and regulations, basic knowledge of the security market, and other credibilities. In total, an individual has to attempt 75 questions, and ten questions will add additionally, but it wouldn't score in your test. These additional questions are pretests and designed based on the SIE module.

  1. The first segment is knowledge of Capital Markets; this segment demonstrates the essential knowledge and skills of the market, FINRA rules, and regular entities. The critical evaluating points in this segment are Regulatory Entities, Agencies and Market Participants, market structure, economic factors, and regulations.  
  2. The second segment understands Products and Their Risks; In this segment, the question evaluates the knowledge of products, investment risk, rules, candidate's power of critical thinking that how the attempter will manage the market and suggest where to invest and how to invest.
  3. The third segment understands Trading, Customer Accounts, and Prohibited Activities; the primary purpose of this section is to evaluate the candidate's power of managing accounts based on NASD rules. The candidates must have a complete market compliance knowledge of trading settlement, prohibited activities, practices, and corporate actions.
  4. The fourth segment is an overview of the Regulatory Framework; this segment evaluates the candidate commands SRO Regulatory Requirements, rules, candidates conduct, and reputable events.

What is the purpose of conducting and administrating this exam?

The mission of FINRA to conduct and administrated this test is to secure the market reputation, investor assets, rules, monitory firms, offerings, and market transparency. The exam mainly focused on the industry products, terminology, structure, and rules and regulations of the market.  

What are the eligibility criteria for SIE exams?

This test is only attempted by those candidates who are at least 18-year-old. And second criteria are the candidates must be associated with any brokerage organization or firm.

What is the basic module to cover the topic of the test? 

The test format is designed based on three modules, so in this way, the conductor can focus on all topics.

Out of 85 75 questions, the student must have answered 53 questions to pass the exams. Remember, there will be 85 questions that you need to attempt, but ten questions will not score. You have allowed 1 hour and 45 minutes to complete the test. The test will be conducted on a computer. If you want to reschedule the test, you have to request it within 14 working days; otherwise, you have to pay again for the test, up to $60.
