Industrial technology company 3M (MMM) has appointed Amanda Yates as its new Chief Sustainability Officer, succeeding outgoing CSO Gayle Schueller, who has announced her retirement from the company.
Yates takes on her new role at 3M after more than 13 years at the company, serving in a series of senior positions, including most recently as Senior Director of Global Sustainability, with responsibilities including supporting the development of 3M’s sustainability strategy, the validation of the company’s SBTi near-term emissions targets, its roadmap to meet its emissions reduction targets, and supporting water and plastics target updates, in addition to corporate and policymaker engagement, as well as helping align business operations and new product development processes to corporate targets and expectations for lower impact products.
In a post announcing her appointment, Yates said:
“Sustainability has always meant something more personal — a way of thinking about impact, responsibility, and the future we’re helping shape. I’m deeply grateful for the chance to continue this work in a role that feels both meaningful and humbling, at a company that believes in the power of science, innovation, and long-term impact.”
Schueller will step down from her role after 34 years at 3M, including serving as Chief Sustainability Officer at the company since 2018.
