Some charts are truly fascinating like for instance long term momentum stocks. In other words, stocks on the rise on the long term. In that category, we only have a handful of charts that consistently rising in 2016, given the volatility in January and September of this year.
Indeed, 2016 proved to be a difficult year, certainly the first months of the year. MarketWatch was slightly off when they wrote that stocks are likely to rise as 2016 approaches. It proved to take some time until broad market selling was over.
Investors should not always watch to acquire stocks with high returns as that also implies higher risk. “U.S. stocks expected to rise as much as 98%” could sound very attractive, but it comes with a lot of risk. Low risk but high reward opportunities, that is what investors should be looking for, and stocks on the rise on the long run (long term momentum stocks) is part of the answer.
Our best picks: stocks on the rise in 2016 and, likely, in 2017
Let’s review 3 stocks which are on the rise in 2016, and which we suspect will continue to rise in a similar fashion in 2017. We consider these stocks to be sector leaders, so an absolute buy for the long run.
Fiserv (FISV) is a stock on the rise since many years. Its chart looks fabulous. The company is active in the payment processing sector. It has not really retraced in many years. We continue to see a nice pattern of higher lows, so we are convinced that this stock will also be on the rise in 2017.

Inphi Corporation (IPHI) was a small cap stock until recently. It now has a +2 billion dollar market cap given its persisent growth. The company offers infrastructure to facilitate very high speed internet, a subsector which is set to grow in 2017. Inphi announced a cooperation with Microsoft recently, for supporting their high growth cloud infrastructure.

Lassonde Industries (LSDAF) is a stock on the rise on the long run. 2017 looks as great as 2016, as this food company keeps on growing consistently.

Stocks on the rise on the long run are great for every balanced portfolio, but proper due diligence is required for every stock pick.
