Date: Wednesday, October 17, 2018 5:21 AM EDT

Like an intriguing design, engaging content and attractive structure? By adding more flavor to a custom box, it adds more value to the seller. So, let’s dive into a guide of how can we design a custom box.

There Are A Few Steps That Must Be Followed While Designing A Custom Box Such As:

  • Knowing the details about the product and customer
  • Information about the brand
  • Budgeting
  • Understanding the layers of the box design
  • Choosing the right material
  • Getting the printer ready
  • Information architecture
  • Evaluation of box design
  • Feedback

Knowing The Detail About The Product And Costumer:

You must first understand that what exactly the product is? This will let you know if you have to care about the logistics while designing the custom box. Also, if you will write anything over it, it must be after getting detailed knowledge about the product.

Also, think about the people who are buying the product. Who are they? Their demographics, interest, and whatever you can collect easily. It would help a lot in selecting the design.

Next, you must how the product is being sold. Is it available in a market? Or online? You will design the package according to that.

Sometimes, a product stands alone but in some cases, it might be representing an already developed brand. If it’s like that, then you must know completely about the brand. For instance, you should gather information about color, font style and logo of the brand. The product must look related to its brand.

Budgeting

Before actually designing your package, understand your budget completely. Sort out the one-time cost and one item cost as well. You will have it to write it down that how much would you like to spend in the designing process. Keep in mind, that cheaper isn’t always better and costly can disturb the budget. So, go for a mediator budget.

Understanding The Layers Of The Box Design

  • Before designing, understand that there are three layers of box design: Outer packaging, inner packaging, and product packaging.
  • The outer package is the first thing a customer sees. This might be the just the box in which the product is shipped, or a shopping bag.
  • Inner packaging is what keeps the product safe. It might be a sheet or tissues or anything that are there to protect the product.
  •

Choosing The Right Material:

There are many materials and shapes available in the market for custom packaging but you must choose the most unique and suitable box design. It might be around the box or a rectangular box. It all depends on the product’s nature, the market competition, and your budget. Keeping these things in mind, choose the best material and design for your custom box.

Getting The Printer Ready

You are going to get to the stage of the printer until after designing, but you must have in mind what do you require from a printer. It will give you the idea of cost as well and it will let you go down to the specific information like what type of lines would you prefer? What should be the design?

Information Architecture

Now, this is the time to use the information you collected at the very start about the product, the customer and the place where the product is being sold.

Keeping in mind, these facts, decide what you want your customer to see when they look at your product at once. Is it the color of the box? The design? The message written on it? The description? It’s the time to decide that.

Evaluation Of Box Design

Now evaluate your box design ideas on the basis of the following things:

  • Is it clear from the packaging that what your product is? Like if it’s an energy drink, does it look like one? Or does it look like a shampoo?
  • Is the box design an honest representation of what your product is? Like if you have a shampoo inside, does the box depict same? Or does it look like a perfume from outside?
  • How will it look like once it is kept in stores?
  • Is the design versatile? Will, it still works and modify if a new variety comes in?
  • Is your box reusable? If yes, then it’s a plus point.

Feedback

Collect feedback from your surroundings. Go to the stakeholders and the people who haven’t heard about your product ever before. Ask them what does the box look like? What do you think is inside of it? What message is it conveying from outside?  These answers will let you decide if to keep that design or to modify it.

Best of luck with your custom box design.
