The Importance of Life Insurance in 2020

Date: Sunday, May 24, 2020 6:11 AM EDT

The current state of world health in 2020 has made all of us a little more risk-averse, with good reason. Despite this, the amount of us that are investing in life insurance is surprisingly low. There are a variety of reasons as to why this is. Some people consider the costs associated with life insurance simply too high, or they don't fully understand just how important it can be.

Granted, there are certain groups that don't need life insurance. If you're single with no dependents or you don't run any kind of business, then you can probably get away without life insurance. Many of us don't fall into that category, which means it's imperative you do have an insurance plan for when the unthinkable happens.

If you're older, then this is especially true. Secure Senior Life Insurance provides quotes on a variety of life insurance packages depending on your circumstance, so you can find the right plan for you. No one wants to think about the kinds of things life insurance protects us from, which is why it's so often put to one side, but in preparation, there's nothing more reassuring than knowing your family is taken care of once you're gone.

Keep Your Family Protected

This is perhaps the most important reason for taking out life insurance. None of us like to imagine how our family will cope after our passing, but knowing at the very least they will be more financially secure is a relief we can all benefit from. Life insurance is unique among insurance plans as it's the one claim we all know we will one day have to make, which makes it all the more valuable.

The emotional pain of losing a loved one is difficult enough without having to worry about financial fallout too. Life insurance provides a safety net for your family, so they can grieve without having to worry about unpaid debts they may have inherited or the heavy blow of funeral costs.

Insurance Provided Through Work Isn't Substantial

A lot of jobs provide life insurance as one of their employment benefits, so a lot of us think we're covered by that alone. Unfortunately, as much as we may believe we're going to be in our current jobs for the rest of our lives, that often isn't the case. The economy is unpredictable, and so are our professional lives.

This is especially true in 2020. If your life insurance plan is provided by your employer then it is only valid for as long as you work for them. This is dangerous as unexpected unemployment would make you even more vulnerable.

It also could mean finding another plan may result in higher premiums, due to you being older now than when you first started with your previous employer. Start with a private plan from the beginning to ensure both you and your family are reliably protected.

It May Save Your Business

Many of us rightfully think of our families and how we're going to support them after we've gone, but your business needs attention too. If your own a business or you're an integral part of its economic success, then you may need to take out specific life insurance to ensure there isn't a financial fallout if something happens to you.

This is especially true if you run a family business or employ a high number of people. The emotional distress of losing a loved one is difficult enough without also having to try and keep on top of business ventures that were once your responsibility. Life insurance policies such as key figure plans exist solely for this purpose, though many are available depending on the needs of your business.

It isn't a pleasant topic to consider, but life insurance can provide you with additional ease of mind that you're doing the best you can to protect your family once you're gone.
