Amazon Flexing Its Muscle

Date: Wednesday, September 23, 2020 9:46 AM EDT

The WSJ is reporting that Amazon (AMZN) is limiting the ability of some competitors to promote their products. For example, Roku (ROKU), which sells streaming video devices, isn't allowed to purchase ads on Amazon. In some cases, Amazon has barred competitors from selling certain devices on its site entirely.

Retailers, big and small, know the joys of "store brands." In that regard, Amazon is no different. AmazonBasics products are generally lower-cost versions of name brands. Amazon also has its own brands (Echo, Fire TV, etc.) that are standalone and world-class. It's the latter category of products that is cause for pause. Roku directly competes with Fire TV -- just not on Amazon.com.

We'll talk about unfair competition and limited choices today during both of our Online Networking Salons. Join us at 11:05 a.m. EDT for Health & Wellness Tech or at 11:35 a.m. EDT for 5G & Connectivity. I'm looking forward to seeing you. -s
