Stock Market & Economy Recap - Saturday, July 31
The majority of earnings and data continue to support an economic recovery. Progress on the infrastructure bill helped boost sentiment for the more cyclical sectors of the market. That may offset some of the “peak growth” concerns in the tech space.
Stock Market & Economy Recap - Saturday, July 24
It was a quiet week for economic data, so earnings took center stage. I expect to see a tug of war between fundamentals (earnings & interest rates) and near-term concerns (peak growth, inflation, delta variants, etc.).
Stock Market & Economy Recap - Saturday, July 17
Overall, the fundamental picture remains solid. Earnings are great and interest rates are still not high enough to threaten the expansion. Q2 will likely see peak earnings. Watch for more “is this as good as it gets?” rhetoric coming our way.
Paper Hands

Stock Market & Economy Recap - Saturday, July 10
It was another slow holiday-shortened week with little market moving earnings and economic data. That will change next week, as Q2 earnings officially kick off along with plenty of economic data.
Stock Market & Economy Recap - Saturday, July 3
It was a slow week for data and earnings, and I expect next week to be the same. We still have a ways to go to get back to “full employment,” but the recovery is still in place, and I expect a full recovery to occur sooner than previous recoveries.
Stock Market & Economy Recap - Saturday, June 26
The S&P 500 earnings per share (EPS) increased to $192.56 this week. The forward EPS is now +21% year-to-date, and +50% higher than this time last year. I expect a sizable increase in EPS next week as we roll into a new quarter.
Stock Market & Economy Recap - Saturday, June 19
The earnings and economic data this week continued to confirm the expansion is intact. But that all took a back seat to the pivotal shift in the Fed’s stance on future monetary policy.
Stock Market & Economy Recap - Saturday, June 12
The S&P 500 earnings per share increased to $191.93 this week. The forward EPS is now +20.7% year-to-date. All but three S&P 500 companies have now reported Q1 earnings. Q1 was another record quarter.
Stock Market & Economy Recap - Sunday, June 6
The economic recovery appears to remain in place. There are some signs the growth rate may be peaking, but that is to be expected. I’m watching for the shift in consumer spending from goods to services now that the economy is starting to reopen.

It was a slow week for economic data. Retail earnings took center stage. Earnings continue to be stellar, as 2021 earnings growth estimates are now +35%, and 2022 and 2023 earnings growth projections are +12% and +9%, respectively.
