Major Indexes Steady As More Record Closes Loom

Stocks are going for a strong finish to the week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI), S&P 500 Index (SPX) and Nasdaq Composite (IXIC) are all comfortably in the black midday, as investors weigh the latest round of corporate reports. A lackluster June durable goods report showed a contraction of 9.3%, coming in slightly above estimates, keeping gains in check. However, it shouldn't stop all three major indexes from securing weekly wins, and should the SPX keep climbing, it will be five straight record closes for the benchmark.

MMC Stats July 25

Newmont Corporation (NYSE: NEM) stock is seeing a gold rush in the options pits. At last check, 65,000 calls have changed hands, volume that's 5 times the average intraday amount. The October 75 call is the most popular front-month contract, while the August 65 call is also making noise. NEM is 6.4% higher to trade at $65.36 and earlier hit a multi-year high of $66.57 after the gold miner's second-quarter earnings beat. Year-to-date, Newmont stock is 76% higher.

Deckers Outdoor Corp (NYSE: DECK) stock is near the top of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) today, last seen up 12.8% to trade at $118.32. The footwear company reported fiscal first-quarter earnings and revenue that topped analyst estimates, with the top-line beat fueled by outstanding sales of its Hoka running shoe brand. DECK is trading at its highest level since a late May post-earnings bear gap, but is still down 41% year-to-date.
