As businesses seek better ways to simulate real-world operations, artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing digital twin technology.
A digital twin is a virtual replica of a physical system, asset, or environment that mirrors real-world conditions in real-time. When enhanced with AI, they unlock powerful capabilities, delivering actionable insights, predicting outcomes, and optimizing operations.
In this graphic, we analyze Hexagon’s survey data from 660 executives to show the top AI-driven applications of digital twins.
Front-End Data at the Front of the Uses
Survey data from Hexagon reveals that companies are implementing AI in digital twins across several of the following key areas:
The most common use case, reported by 59% of businesses, is processing front-end data. AI-driven analytics streamline data handling, ensuring more accurate simulations and better decision-making.
Additionally, 56% of organizations use AI to enhance user interfaces, while 43% leverage AI to provide better recommendations.
Rounding out the list are 42% of respondents noting its role in ensuring reliability before deployment, while 41% of businesses use AI to create the initial setup of their digital twins.
The Future of AI-Powered Digital Twins
Beyond these applications, Hexagon’s report underscores AI’s ability to enhance collaboration and problem-solving. As AI technology advances, its role in digital twins will only grow.
With 80% of business leaders expressing increased interest in AI-powered digital twins, the technology is moving from a “nice-to-have” to a “must-have” for organizations aiming to stay competitive.
AI will transform this technology further, unlocking even greater efficiencies and insights. The question is no longer whether AI will shape them but how far this transformation will go.
