Meta And IBM Unite For AI Innovation
Meta Platforms (META) and IBM (IBM) have launched an AI Alliance, encompassing more than 50 entities including tech giants, research institutions, and academic players like Intel, Oracle, Cornell University, and the National Science Foundation. This alliance is a departure from the closed, proprietary systems led by companies such as OpenAI.
This initiative advocates for open-source AI technology, a concept that thrives on collaboration across the tech industry, academia, and independent programming communities. Both Meta and IBM are contributing AI innovations to this venture; AMD and ServiceNow are providing hardware support and AI research to bolster this ecosystem.
The AI Alliance’s agenda includes focusing on regulation, safety, and creating integrated AI solutions. This is great on many levels, but don’t be confused – there will be a need for both open source and proprietary models going forward. Each has their own uses and cost structures.
