These 7 AI Stocks Were Major Movers On Monday/Tuesday - Here's Why

If you are one of the 7650 individuals signed up to be notified of my articles on the AI, semiconductor, cannabis and psychedelic compound-based drug stocks (see here) you are aware that these articles are usually posted on a weekly basis. That being said, however, a lot can, and does, happen on a daily basis and this article identifies the "major movers" - those stocks that have advanced or declined by 10% or more so far this week (i.e., Monday and Tuesday).

The "major movers" are presented below, in descending order, with a description of their area of focus, the munKNEE Portfolio they are included in, as well as the event that has caused the major move in their stock price in the last two (2) days, as follows:

  1. Recursion Pharmaceuticals (RXRX): UP 12.7%
    • Area of Focus: decoding biology by integrating technological innovations across biology, chemistry, automation, data science, and engineering to industrialize drug discovery

    • Reason for Major Move: Needham analyst Gil Blum reiterated a Buy rating for the stock and maintained a price target of $17 (Source)
  2. Absci (ABSI): UP 12.1%
    • Area of Focus: utilizes a platform to improve upon traditional biologic drug discovery by using AI to simultaneously optimize multiple drug characteristics that may be important to development and therapeutic benefit

    • Reason for Major Move:  positive market sentiment and recent developments such as an increase in hedge fund positions; several favorable research analyst reports; and an increase of 28.5% in short interest since mid-June with 7.9% of the shares of the stock currently being sold short (Source)
  3. Evolv Technologies (EVLV): UP 12.0%
    • Area of Focus: screens people for threats without sacrificing the visitor experience

    • Reason for Major Move: saw some unusual options trading activity on Tuesday with investors purchasing 1,690% more call options than normal (Source)
  4. IonQ (IONQ): UP 11.7%
    • Area of Focus: using trapped-ion technology in its processing units which relies on suspending ions in space using electromagnetic fields, and transmitting information through the movement of those ions in a “shared trap.”

    • Reason for Major Move:  unveiled an accelerated roadmap and new technical milestones to propel its commercial quantum advantage forward (Source)
  5. Relay Therapeutics (RLAY): UP 10.2%
    • Area of Focus: enhancing small molecule therapeutic discovery in targeted oncology and genetic disease indications
    • Portfolio: AI-Powered Drug Discovery Stocks Portfolio
    • Reason for Major Move: surge driven by an upgrade from Raymond James, which changed its rating from “Outperform” to “Strong Buy” and set a price target of $29 (Source)
  6. Rekor Systems (REKR): UP 10.1%
    • Area of Focus: leverages AI, machine learning, and holistic data to support the intelligent infrastructure for smart mobility.
    • Portfolio: Micro/Small Cap AI Stocks Portfolio
    • Reason for Major Move: significant increase was the result of its announcement of a strategic partnership with SoundThinking (SSTI) which is expected to enhance Rekor’s capabilities in AI-driven traffic studies, which likely boosted investor confidence (Source)
  7. CrowdStrike (CRWD): DOWN 11.8%
    • Area of Focus: provides an integrated cloud-based security solution to secure a range of combination of platforms and offers website and application performance solutions
    • Portfolio: Pure-Play CyberSecurity Software Stocks Portfolio
    • Reason for Major Move: plunge in its stock continued on Monday and Tuesday after falling 11.3% last Friday as the result of a defective update being sent out by the company that caused a global IT outage for Microsoft (MSFT) Windows hosts. (Read this).
