On March 13, Tesla (TSLA) collaborated with Baidu (BIDU), a Chinese technology company, to enhance its Full Self-Driving (FSD) feature for the Chinese market. A team of engineers from Baidu has been stationed at Tesla's Beijing office. Baidu will integrate its map data with Tesla's FSD Version 13 intelligent driving system.

On February 25, Tesla launched FSD in mainland China and emphasized that this system is different from the FSD in the United States and cannot achieve full autonomous driving. After its launch, FSD has shown subpar performance, often failing to recognize traffic lights, obstacles, and other issues.

Part of the reason for the system's poor performance is the conflict between regulations in China and the United States. The US chip embargo has made it difficult for Tesla to establish a local data center in China, while China strictly controls data exports. As a result, Tesla has had to train its Chinese version of FSD using publicly available video resources online.

The core goal of this collaboration is to enhance FSD V13's understanding of China's complex road environment through more accurate and real-time updated map data. Tesla has previously collaborated with Baidu, as Baidu Maps have been pre-installed on Tesla vehicles.
