Sensex Today Trades Lower; Nifty Below 24,850

Asian markets traded mixed on Monday as investors await more details of the US-China trade talks.

US stock market ended higher on Friday amid optimism over the US-European Union trade deal, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq notching record high closes.

At present, the BSE Sensex is trading 185 points lower, and the NSE Nifty is trading 32 points lower.

Bajaj Finserv, Tata Motors, and  Maruti Suzuki are among the top gainers today.

Kotak Mahindra, TCS, and Infosys, on the other hand, are among the top losers today.

The BSE Midcap index is trading 0.4% higher, and the BSE Smallcap index is trading 0.2% higher.

Sectoral indices are trading mixed today, with stocks in the oil & gas sector and the power sector witnessing buying. Meanwhile, stocks in the banking sector and the real estate sector are witnessing selling pressure.

The rupee is trading at Rs 86.4 against the US dollar.
 

Wabag Wins Bengaluru Contract

In Bengaluru, VA Tech Wabag Ltd. has won a Rs 3.8 billion (bn) contract for the development of advanced water reuse facilities. The World Bank-funded project will provide the city with access to clean water, marking a significant win for the business.

WABAG will design, engineer, build, and commission (EPC) advanced wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) with tertiary treatment capabilities as part of the contract.

Biogas generation units, solar sludge drying beds, intermediate pumping stations, and related pipework are also included in the scope of work.

To ensure long-term sustainability and operational efficiency, the project is planned to be completed over 30 months, followed by a 10-year operation and maintenance (O&M) phase.

The program demonstrates BWSSB and WABAG's dedication to environmentally conscious and energy-efficient infrastructure for sustainable urban water management.

The project will use a green technology that converts waste into biogas, which will power the water treatment plant. This will reduce energy consumption, increase efficiency, and support sustainability.

VA Tech Wabag Ltd specializes in water treatment solutions, designing, building, and managing plants for drinking water, wastewater, industrial water, and desalination.
 

Dr Reddy's Invests in Russian Subsidiary

Dr. Reddy's Laboratories invested Rs 5.6 bn in its Russian subsidiary, acquiring a 45.19% stake. This investment expands the company's presence in Russia.

This comes after the company's board approved an investment of up to Rs 6 bn in DRL Russia on 5 November 2024. On 25 July 2025, the investment was finalised using cash consideration.

DRL Russia, a pharmaceutical distribution business that operates in the Russian Federation, will use the money to cover its working capital requirements. For FY2025, DRL Russia reported a turnover of Rs 23.5 bn.

Dr. Reddy's Laboratories is a major Indian pharmaceutical company that develops and sells a wide range of medicines, including generics, biosimilars, and custom pharmaceutical products.

Kotak Mahindra Bank's Q1 Profit Falls Sharply

Kotak Mahindra Bank reported its Q1 FY26 results.

In the first quarter of the fiscal year that ended in 2025-2026, the total interest income increased by 8.5% to Rs 138.4 bn from Rs 127.5 bn in the same period the year before.

In the June quarter, the bank's net interest income (NII) climbed 6% year over year to Rs 72.6 bn from Rs 68.4 bn the previous year.

According to the exchange filing, Kotak Mahindra Bank's gross non-performing assets (NPAs) for the first quarter of the 2026 fiscal year were 1.5%, down from 1.4% in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year.

Kotak Mahindra Bank reported a 7.6% drop in net profit for the April-June quarter, earning Rs 32.8 bn compared to Rs 35.2 bn last year.
