Dow, S&P 500 Hit Record Highs Amid Market Rally
Stocks are flying high today, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) up 277 points and notching new record highs alongside the S&P 500 Index (SPX). According to many, the likelihood of former U.S. President Donald Trump winning the presidential election has increased following the failed assassination attempt over the weekend, and Wall Street is busy gauging what that could mean for the market. Meanwhile, the New York Federal Reserve Bank's Empire State factory gauge contracted for the eighth-straight month with a negative 6.6 July reading.
Options traders are targeting Upstart Holdings Inc (Nasdaq: UPST) today amid the stock's surge. So far, 103,000 calls and 19,000 puts have been exchanged, double the average daily volume already. The June 27.50 call is the most popular, followed by the June 30 call, with new positions opening at the latter. At last glance, UPST was up 12.2% at $30.42, paring some of its steep 2024 losses.
Trump Media and Technology Group (Nasdaq: DJT) stock is up 29.9% at $40.10 at last glance, gapping to its highest levels since early June after the former president survived an assassination attempt over the weekend. Since the start of the year, the equity is up 124%.
Solar stocks are falling today, as the odds of Trump's victory in the Presidential election increase. Sunnova Energy International Inc (NYSE: NOVA) is down 11.5% at $6.79 today, on the short sell restricted (SSR) list and looking to snap a seven-day win streak. Year to date, the equity is down 54.9%.
