Daily Stock Pick: Eagle Financial Services

This week, I'm looking for the third financial services sector representative of seven for my Ivy portfolio.

Financial Services includes twenty industries ranging from Asset Management to 8 kinds of Banks, Credit, Exchanges, 6 kinds of Insurance, Savings, and all such financial concerns.

Today I'm reviewing a small-cap bank - regional -US named Eagle Financial Services Inc. Its trading ticker symbol is EFSI.

Eagle Financial Services, Inc. operates as the bank holding company for Bank of Clarke County that provides various retail and commercial banking services in the Shenandoah Valley and Northern Virginia.

The company offers deposit products, such as checking, NOW, money market, and regular savings accounts; and demand and time deposits. It also provides one-to-four-family residential real estate, commercial real estate, construction and land development, mortgage, and commercial and industrial loans, as well as secured and unsecured consumer loans, which include personal installment loans, personal lines of credit, automobile loans, and credit card loans. In addition, the company offers ATM and debit cards; and telephone, Internet, and mobile banking services. Further, it provides personal and retirement plan services.

As of December 31, 2017, it operated 12 full-service branches; and 1 drive-through only facility in the Virginia communities of Berryville, Winchester, Boyce, Stephens City, Purcellville, Leesburg, and Ashburn, as well as 13 ATM locations. The company was founded in 1881 and is headquartered in Berryville, Virginia.

I use three key data points to gauge the value of any dividend equity-like Eagle Financial Services Inc:

(1) Price

(2) Dividends

(3) Returns

Besides those three, several other keys will finally unlock an equity or fund in which to invest.

Those first three primary keys, however, best tell whether a company has made, is making, and will make money.

EFSI Price

Eagle's price per share closed at $33.00 yesterday. A year ago its price was $32.25. Price rose  $0.75 per share last year, or over 2.3%.

Assuming Eagle's stock trades in the range of $28 to $38 next year, Eagle's recent $33.00 price could rise by  $1.00 and go to $34.00 by mid-February, 2020.

EFSI Dividends

Eagle's most recent Quarterly dividend was $0.24 paid February 15th.

That quarterly dividend equates to a $0.96 annual payout and a yield of 2.90% at yesterday's $33.00 closing price.

Gains For EFSI?

Adding the $1.00 annual estimated dividend to my $0.96 Eagle's estimated price upside shows a $1.96 potential gross annual gain, per share, which will be reduced by costs to trade those shares.

Say we put a little under $1,000.00 today at the $33.00 recent stock price would buy us 30 Eagle Financial Services Inc shares.

A $10 broker fee paid half at purchase and half at sale costs $0.33 per share.

Subtract that $0.33 brokerage cost from the estimated $1.96 gross annual gain leaves a net gain of $1.66 X 30 shares

= $49.80  or a 5% net gain on a $990.00 investment.

Therefore, Eagle Financial Services Inc whose trading ticker symbol is EFSI now shows a possible net gain of 5% including that 2.90% dividend yield.

One broker covers this stock:

She says your EFSI shares will 'outperform' peers.

Therefore, you can look at Eagle Financial Services Inc and see it has made money, is making money, and could throw a net gain of 5% including that 2.90% dividend yield. It could be more, it could be less.

The above speculation is based on past year performance. The actual results remain to be seen to determine if Eagle Financial Services Inc is worth your time and money.
