Daily Stock Pick: Avnet

That portfolio of stocks I've been building since September 3, 2019, named Volio, will, by August 28, hold 52 dividend dogs. Volio is the fifth portfolio I've built (at a one dividend dog per-week pace) since 2014. Five portfolios = V for Volio!

Today I'm reviewing the first of five technology sector stocks primed to join Volio as the ninth of nine representing the sector.  One of the stocks I discuss this week could become the fifty-first overall selection for Volio!

My subject today is a mid-cap electronics and computer distribution company named, Avnet Inc. Its trading ticker is AVT. This is my second report on Avnet Inc for this portfolio. Last I reported about them on July 1.

Avnet is a leading value-added distributor of electronic components. The company's customer base is composed of original equipment manufacturers, or OEMs, electronic manufacturing services, or EMS, providers and original design manufacturers, or ODMs.

The firm operates in two groups--electronic components and Farnell, the latter of which was acquired by Avnet in October 2016.

The Farnell segment distributes kits, tools, and electronic and industrial automation components, as well as test and measurement products to engineers and entrepreneurs.

With operations in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Asia Pacific, Avnet, Inc. was founded in 1921 and is headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona.

I use three key data points to gauge dividend equities or funds like Avnet Inc:

(1) Price

(2) Dividends

(3) Returns

Those three basic keys best tell whether a company has made, is making, and will make money.

AVT Price

Avnet's price per share closed at $28.37 yesterday. A year ago their price was $40.99. Price fell $12.62 or over 30% last year.

Assuming Avnet's stock trades in the range of $16 to $32 this year, its recent $28.37 price might rise by $1.63 to reach $30.00 by August 17, 2021.

AVT Dividends

Avnet's most recently declared quarterly dividend was $0.21, payable September 23rd. That Q dividend equates to $0.84  annually and yields 2.96% at yesterday's $28.37 share price.

AVT Gains?

Adding the $0.84 annual estimated dividend to my $1.63 optimistic estimate of Avnet's price upside shows a $2.47 potential gross gain, per share, to be reduced by any costs to trade the shares.

If we put little under $1,000.00 today in Avnet Inc at $28.37, we would buy 35 shares of (AVT) stock.

A $10 broker fee paid half at purchase and half at sale could cost us about $0.29 per share.

Subtract that $0.29 brokerage cost from my estimated $2.47 gross gain per share results in a net gain of $2.18 X 35 shares = $76.30 for a 7.63% net gain on a $992.95 investment.

Thus, Avnet Inc shows a possible 7.63% net gain including a 2.96% dividend yield. It could be more, it could be less.

The above speculation is based on past performance and supposition. Only time and money invested will tell if Avnet Inc is worth it.
