Daily Stock Pick: Aperam (APEMY)

This week, I'm looking for the fourth materials sector representative of nine for my Ivy portfolio.

That materials sector has thirteen industries all related to mining, making, and delivering essential commodities. They are: agricultural inputs; aluminum; building materials; chemicals; coal; copper; industrial metals; gold; paper; silver; specialty chemicals; steel.

Today I'm reviewing a mid-cap steel company, named Aperam SA. Its trading ticker symbol is APEMY. I last reported on Aperam on January 24th.

Aperam SA is a Luxembourg-based stainless and specialty steel producer.

The company primarily operates through three segments. Its stainless and electrical steel segment produces a wide range of stainless and electrical steel products, and also owns a subsidiary that produces charcoal, which substitutes coke in production. Its service and solutions segment markets the company's products and provides customized steel transformation services. Its alloys and specialties segment produces nickel alloys and certain specific stainless steels.

The company's downstream sectors include aerospace, automotive, catering, construction, household appliances and electrical engineering, industrial processes, medical, and oil and gas industries. It distributes its products through a network of service centers, transformation facilities, and sales offices. It generates most of its revenue from the Americas and Europe.

Aperam S.A. was incorporated in 2010 and is headquartered in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg.

I use three key data points to gauge the value of any dividend equity-like Aperam SA:

(1) Price

(2) Dividends

(3) Returns

Besides those three, several other keys will finally unlock an equity or fund in which to invest.

Those first three primary keys, however, best tell whether a company has made, is making, and will make money.

APEMY Price

Aperam's price per share closed at $32.77 yesterday. A year ago its price was $48.95. Price fell $16.18 or over 33% in the past year.

Assuming Aperam's stock trades in the range of $24 to $48 this year, Aperam's recent $32.77 price could rise by $1.23 and go to $34.00 by mid-March, 2020.

APEMY Dividends

Aperam's most recent Quarterly dividend was $0.4978 declared in February and payable June 13th.

a $0.4978 Q dividend equates to an annual payout of $1.99 for a yield of 6.08% at yesterday's $32.77 closing price.

Gains For APEMY?

Adding the $1.99 annual estimated dividend to my $1.23 estimate of Aperam's price upside shows a $3.22 potential gross annual gain, per share, which will be reduced by costs to trade those shares.

Say we put a little under $1,000.00 today at the $32.77 recent stock price would buy us 30 Aperam SA shares.

A $10 broker fee paid half at purchase and half at sale costs $0.33 per share.

Subtract that $0.33 brokerage cost from the estimated $3.22 gross annual gain leaves a net gain of $2.89 X 30 shares

= $86.70 or nearly 8.75% net gain on a $983.10 investment.

Therefore, Aperam SA whose trading ticker symbol is APEMY now shows a possible net gain of nearly 8.75% including a 6.08% dividend yield.

No brokers cover this stock:

So I get no argument

Therefore, you can look at Aperam SA and see it has made money, is making money, and could throw a net gain of nearly 8.75% including a 6.08% dividend yield. It could be more, it could be less.

The above speculation is based on past year performance. The actual results remain to be seen to determine if Aperam SA is worth your time and money.
