Daily Stock Analysis: Avnet

The portfolio of stocks I started building on September 8, at a one stock per week pace for the next year, is named Vista. I will select its seventeenth stock this weekend. Vista is the sixth portfolio I've built (at a one dividend dog per-week pace) since 2014. Six portfolios = VI for Vista!

Vista is planned to Look Ahead for Outstanding, Proven, Dividend Winners. (Like Aristocrats)

Today I'll review the fourth of four technology sector stock candidates vying to be that seventeenth selection in Vista.

Today we look at a mid-cap electronics and computer distribution company named Avnet Inc. Its trading ticker symbol is AVT. This is my second report on Avnet Inc for Vista. I last reported on it on September 14.

Avnet is a leading value-added distributor of electronic components.

The company's customer base is composed of original equipment manufacturers, or OEMs, electronic manufacturing services, or EMS, providers and original design manufacturers, or ODMs.

The firm operates in two groups--electronic components and Farnell, the latter of which was acquired by Avnet in October 2016.

The Farnell segment distributes kits, tools, and electronic and industrial automation components, as well as test and measurement products to engineers and entrepreneurs.

It has operations in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Asia Pacific.

Avnet, Inc. was founded in 1921 and is headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona.

I use three key data points to gauge dividend equities or funds like The Avnet Inc:

(1) Price

(2) Dividends

(3) Returns

Those three basic keys best tell whether a company has made, is making, and will make money.

AVT Price

Avnet's price per share closed at $34.85 yesterday. A year ago its price was $42.44. Price is down $7.59 or about 17.9% on the year.

If Anvet Inc stock trades in the range of $20 to $40 this next year, its recent $34.85 price might rise by $3.15 to reach $38.00 by December 31, 2021.

AVT Dividends

Avnet's most recently declared quarterly dividend was $0.21 paid December 16th. Dividends are estimated to total $0.84 per share annually and yield 2.41% at yesterday's $34.85 closing price.

AVT Gains?

Adding the $0.84 annual anticipated dividend to my $3.15 optimistic price upside shows a $3.99 potential gross gain, per share, to be reduced by any costs to trade the shares.

Put little over $1,000.00 today in Avnet Inc at $34.85 per share and we'd buy 29 shares of AVT stock.

A $10 broker fee (if any) paid half at purchase and half at sale could cost us about $0.34 per share.

Subtract that maybe $0.34 brokerage cost from my estimated  $3.99 gross gain per share results in a net gain of $3.65 X 29 shares = $105.85 for a 10.55% net gain on a $1,010.65 investment.

So it goes that Avnet Inc shows a possible 10.5% net gain including a 2.41% dividend yield. It could be more, it could be less.

All of the estimates above are speculation based on the past history of Avnet Inc. Only time and money invested in this stock will determine its worth.
