November saw a very modest increase in consumer spending, 0.6%. That means we are probably making up for it this month.
Finance
*Banco Santander is us 3.31% on hopes of more spending. SAN.
*Bank of Nova Scotia is up .94% for the same reason. BNS.*Gold is up modestly because the 3 kings are coming soon.
Not so chilly
*Antofagasta which mines lithium in Chile rose 3.1% today on hopes that the country's new lefty gov't will let mining continue. ANFGF.
Pharma
Drug news is mixed. Here are the ups:
* Astra Zeneca is up because its antibody drug Evusheld works at the level of people who recovered from an infection of covid 19 in antibody power. AZN.
*Pfizer's anti-virus Paxlovid was approved by our FDA because it is 89% efficacious. PFE.
*Merck got approval of its Molnuprivir pill which is only 30% efficacious because it fills a different need, at home treatment. MRK.
*Eli Lilly rose 1.8%, LLY.
*Novo Nordisk NVO of Denmark which is having problems getting antibody pills out was boosted by a new higher forecast of earnings, DKK 4.67, up from 4.57 today.
And the downs
*Biogen Idec BIIB fell because it cut the price of its Aduhelm against Alzheimer's disease after Japan delayed approval/ However its Japanese partner Eisai, ESALY, rose over 2% on the news. Biogen was downrated by BofA and Oppenheimer.
*Cosan fell 0.8% on no news. CSAN.
*Genfit lost 4.6% also on no news. GNFT.
Tech
*Nokia rose 1.5% today. NOK.
*IBM was upgraded to buy with a new $3.46 eps forecast, up from hold.
*NIO fell 2.78% today.
*South African Naspers rose 2.2% on hopes for its media holdings. NPSNY.
