Canopy Growth Fell 13% Last Week; Here's Why
Canopy Growth Corporation (CGC), a constituent in the Canadian Cannabis LPs Portfolio, went DOWN 12.9% between June 6 and June 13, hurt by three main factors, namely:
- Disappointing Q4 U.S. medical rollout: Although CGC saw solid Canadian medical growth, its ambitious U.S. “Spectrum Reserve” launch fell short of initial projections. Management lowered its forecast for U.S. revenues in FY26, citing slower-than-expected licensing approvals and weaker dispenser uptake.
- Sector-wide profit taking: The 5 stocks in the Canadian Cannabis LPs Portfolio had gone UP 25% since the end of March with CGC, itself, UP 72% and with that many institutional holders trimmed CGC exposure to lock in gains.
- Lingering Canada recreation legalization uncertainty: With the Ontario government hinting at potential cannabis tax hikes (to cover budget deficits) and retail licensing pauses, investors fretted that higher levies and slower store approvals could crimp adult-use volumes and margin recovery.
