Cannabis Central: Pure-Play Pot Stock Index Roared Higher Last Week
The munKNEE.com Pure-Play Pot Stock Index had a remarkable turnaround this past week going up by 18.4% vs. declines of 7.7%, 1.3%, 3.1% and 6.9% during the previous four weeks. All 25 of the index constituents advanced with 15 going up by 15% or more, and another 6 going up between 10% and 15%. In addition, all three of the industry categories went up. The winners and losers are as follows.
Index Performance
The Index has companies doing business in a number of different categories and sub-categories based on their primary area of focus in the cannabis industry. These categories are identified below along with those stocks within each category that went up by 15% or more:
- The Vertically Integrated (i.e. Seed-to-Sale) Category has 22 index constituents that grow, process, and sell cannabis and hemp flower and related products and it was up 18.4%.
- the Canadian Licensed Producer (LPs) Category has 7 index constituents and it went up 18.5%, with the following constituents within the category going up by 15% or more:
- Aphria (APHA) +30.4%; Canopy Growth (CGC) +28.6%; Tilray (TLRY) +25.3% and Organigram (OGI) +17.5%
- the U.S. Multi-State Operator (MSOs) Category has 13 index constituents and it went up 15.9%, on average, with the following constituents within the category going up by 15% or more:
- The hemp seed-to-sale MSO sub-category has two index constituents and it went up 33.5%, on average, with both constituents going up in excess of 15% as follows:
- the Canadian Licensed Producer (LPs) Category has 7 index constituents and it went up 18.5%, with the following constituents within the category going up by 15% or more:
- The Extraction Category has two index constituents focused on the extraction of cannabis compounds and their infusion into consumer products and it went up 22.6%, on average, with both constituents going up in excess of 15% as follows:
- The Consumption Devices Category has only one index constituent (Greenlane (GNLN) focused on developing and selling personal consumption devices for cannabis consumers, such as vape pens and inhalers, and it only was up 10.8% on the week.
