Cannabis Central: Most Portfolio Participants Performed Poorly This Past Week

The majority of the 25 stocks in the munKNEE.com Pure-Play Pot Stock Portfolio performed poorly for the trading week ending September 18th, going down 1.3% on the heels of a 3.1% decline the previous week and 6.9% the week before that. 15 of the constituents went DOWN and all 4 of the industry categories declined as well. The winners and losers are as follows:

Friday's Performance

This past Friday saw the portfolio go down 0.7% with 13 of the 25 stocks going down and 3 of the 4 industry categories in which they operate going down as well. Two stocks, Aurora (ACB) and Harvest Health (HRVSF), went down 5.2% and 5.0%, respectively, while Avicanna (AVCNF) was the only stock to go up more than 5% on the day (+5.8%)

Major Winners

While 10 of the stocks in the portfolio finished the week up in price, only one went up by 10% or more, namely cbdMD (YCBD) which went up by 15.1%, and only one went up more than 5%, namely, Organigram (OGI) which went up 7.5%.

Major Losers

15 of the stocks in the portfolio (60%) finished the week down in price but none did so in excess of 10% although four constituents did go DOWN in excess of 5%, namely:

  1. Valens (VLNCF) -7.1%
  2. Charlotte's Web (CWBHF) -6.6% vs. -11.2% the previous week
  3. Aurora (ACB) -6.4% vs -18.0% the previous week and -13.3% the week before that.
  4. Greenlane (GNLN) -6.2% vs. -9.7% the previous week

    • the 2 hemp seed-to-sale MSO portfolio participants (CWBHF and YCBD) went up 2.0%, on average, vs. a 9.9% decline, on average, the previous week
  2. The Extraction Category has 2 portfolio participants (NEPT and VLNCF) focused on the extraction of cannabis compounds and their infusion into consumer products and they went down 1.5%, on average, vs. a 4.8% decline, on average, the week before.
  3. The Consumption Devices Category has only 1 portfolio participant  (GNLN) focused on developing and selling personal consumption devices for cannabis consumers such as vape pens and inhalers and it went down 6.2% vs. a decline of 9.7% the previous week.
  4. The Biotechnology Category has only 1 portfolio participant (AVCNF) which markets new drugs utilizing cannabinoids (CBD) and it went down 2.2% vs. a 6.1% decline the previous week.
